NTAECC
Aboriginal Peak Organisations NT Aboriginal Corporation (APONT) is working towards the establishment of a peak representative body for education, called the NT Aboriginal Education Consultative Council (NTAECC). NTAECC will work with the Department of Education to ensure our voice is heard when it comes to education for Aboriginal people in the NT.
Objectives
1. Establish partnership approaches with governments and others to ensure all Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory receive quality and accessible education
2. Support Aboriginal educators, staff and students including the provision of appropriate career pathways
3. Advance Commonwealth and Northern Territory government commitments to Closing the Gap Priority Reform 1 Formal Partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
4. Advance Commonwealth and Northern Territory government commitments to Closing the Gap priority reforms and socio-economic outcome areas that target education
Membership
Who is eligible?
A Full Member must:
· be at least 15 years old· be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who supports the objectives of the corporation
· be an Aboriginal person that permanently resides in the Northern Territory
not be an employee of the corporation
An Associate Member:
· must be at least 18 years old
· must be a person who is not eligible to be a full member
· supports the objectives of the corporation
· must be a person that permanently resides in the Northern Territory
· can be an employee of the corporation
Directors:
Who is eligible? A director must be:
· at least 18 years old
· be a Full Member· be an Aboriginal person that permanently resides in the Northern Territory
Governance
The governance of the corporation will comprise of one male director and one female director representing each of the following eight regions:
· Katherine & Roper Gulf
· West & East Arnhem
· Victoria & West Daly
· MacDonnell & Alice Springs
· Barkly & Central Desert
· Groote & Numbulwar
· Tiwi
· Darwin, Palmerston & Litchfield
The following skills and knowledge will be considered if there is more than one director nomination from a region.
· A current or previous employee of the Northern Territory education department
· Cultural knowledge and cultural authority
· Understands the role of advocacy
· Governance knowledge and experience
· Financial management
· Legal background
